About the Magazine

Stories from South Africa's Most Beautiful Coastline

Garden Route Living is an independent digital magazine dedicated to the people, places and culture of the Garden Route.

Knysna Heads

We started Garden Route Living because we believed the region deserved better than generic travel content written by people who had never been here.

The Garden Route isn't a single destination. It's a 300-kilometre stretch of coastline that encompasses indigenous forests, dramatic cliffs, hidden lagoons, and dozens of distinct communities, each with its own character.

Our mission is simple: tell the stories of the people who make this place extraordinary. The restaurateurs who source from local fishermen. The winemakers experimenting in unexpected terroir. The athletes who trained on these trails before representing their country. The designers who've learned to work with our demanding coastal climate.

No stock photography. No sponsored content presented as editorial. No AI-generated filler. Just carefully researched stories about real people doing remarkable things.

What Guides Us

Three principles shape everything we publish

01

Authenticity

Every story features real people we've interviewed, real places we've visited, real photography we've commissioned. We don't aggregate. We originate.

02

Sustainability

We prioritise businesses and initiatives protecting the Garden Route's extraordinary natural environment. The region's future depends on responsible stewardship.

03

Community

The Garden Route's strength lies in its people. We celebrate local talent, support local businesses, and reinvest in the communities that inspire our work.

The Team

Garden Route Living is produced by a small team of writers, photographers and designers based along the Garden Route, from Mossel Bay to Plettenberg Bay.
